Date an awkward man.
Yeah, I just said that and I mean it in the best way possible. Sometimes we gals get so caught up in the looks of a man, the model, the dashingly handsome and socially graceful, charming young man that we ignored some of the greatest men. Some of the sweetest and most sincere guys I know, aren’t always the most charming guys. They sometimes stumble over there words, say awkward things that we have to just ignore or laugh about. They make mistakes. They’re not perfect and we all know it. We girls are so set on our Disney-described prince charming that as soon as we spot an imperfect socially awkward stumbling young man, we brush him aside immediately, sure that he isn’t the one because he doesn’t speak with winning charm. But before we brush them aside, let’s reevaluate what is really worthy in a man. Godliness is the most important characteristic a man can have, not social charm and grace nor good looks, although that is a plus. ;) Honesty, sincerity, gentleness, loving kindness, patience, self-control, and humility – these are just a few characteristics of a godly man (or woman). A socially awkward man may stumble and blunder and make mistakes, but the beauty of a socially awkward man is that he is often times most sincere and honest. He does his best, he tries hard, and you know he’s imperfect and he knows he’s imperfect too, but he ok with that and doesn’t fake it. Sooner or later you’re going to find out your man isn’t perfect no matter how charming he is, but a charmer often can hide his imperfections for a time, while the socially awkward can’t hide anything and doesn’t try either. I think often a socially awkward guy knows he is socially awkward, but he is ok with it, he is ok with who God has made him to be and he only tries his best at life and leaves the rest in God’s hands. Ok, so confession. I have never dated before, so maybe I don’t have any right to write such things. But I have had plenty of time to observe young men, and the more I observe them the more I realize that I am most attracted to the one that seems to be at least a little socially awkward. I love them really. They have become some of my greatest friends. They’re sincere and they care about my life. They listen well. They’re funny and make me laugh when skies are grey. They’re gentle and patient with others. And they make mistakes and are willing to admit it. They’re loyal, true friends. I don’t know yet who may be the first man that I date, but if he is socially awkward than I shall be a happy and blessed woman.
